T Westbrook Historical Society to hold Art Show to honor Nile Barrett he Westbrook Historical Society will be holding an art exhibit to honor our past vice-presi- dent, Nile Barrett who passed away last December. Nile was a very talented artist and skilled in needlework also. Her artwork will be on display along with the art of our founding president John H Wilson who did scrimshaw work and also painted harbor scenes. Other artwork to be displayed is from the Westbrook Gallery that was located on Rt 1 next to Gustafson Pond east of town. This gallery was very active in the 50s and 60s and had several artists working there. We have acquired much of the work created there. There will be cement sculptures and watercolors from Aage Hogfeldt displayed along with the artwork of David Jones. There will be a special display about "The Philistine Traveler", a slide opera, the work of David Jones and William Kent. The slide opera was an all-mechanical opera consisting of a recorded musical score with a chorus, slides of artwork (the originals will be on display), a narrator and poetry. The slide op- era will be presented for the very first time this fall at Yale. Some of the artwork will be for sale. The opening will be on Friday September 27th 4-6pm with wine and cheese offered. It will continue on Saturday September 28th at 11-3pm. It will be held in the carriage house of the Bushnell House museum at 121 South Main St. in Westbrook.
